Context: Kaamya Karthikeyan, a class VII student of Navy Children School (NCS), Mumbai, became the youngest girl in the world to summit Mt. Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America and outside of Asia.

ABOUT MOUNT ACONCAGUA?

Aconcagua is a mountain in the Principal Cordillera ( the Andean mountain range that makes up the boundary between Central Chile and neighbouring areas of Argentina) of the Andes mountain range.  It is the highest mountain outside of Asia (although there are 189 mountains higher than it in Asia alone), being the highest in both the Southern and Western Hemispheres. The mountain is one of the so-called Seven Summits of the seven continents. The mountain was created by the subduction of the Nazca Plate beneath the South American Plate. The rocks found on Aconcagua’s flanks are all volcanic and consist of lavasbreccias and pyroclastics LOCATION:  Mendoza Province, Argentina. HEIGHT: 6,960.8 metres (22,837 ft)
