CORAS (Commando for Railway Security)

CORAS (Commando for Railway Security) of Indian Railways and new establishment manual for Railway Protection Force was launched by Minister of Railways and Commerce &Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal.

The new state of the art commando training centre to be established in Jagadhri, Haryana.

A new network of CCTV cameras is also planned to be set up at every station to enhance the security of Railway passengers. The link of these cameras will be given to the local stations, GRP, RPF, Divisional office and to the Minister’s office.

BACKGROUND OF CORAS (Commandos for Railway Security)

Vision of CORAS
  • To develop world level capabilities of specialized responder for any situation pertaining to damage, disturbance, disruption of train operations, attack/hostage/hijack, disaster situations in railway areas.
  • Following the doctrine of graded response, minimum effective force shall be used for providing fool proof security to Indian Railways and its users.
Salient Features of the CORAS
  • These are carved out from motivated and willing young staff of RPF/RPSF.
  • With an average age between 30-35 years, CORAS will always be young and motivated staff.
  • There is very high physical standards to join CORAS.
  • Commando Coys shall be deployed in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)/Insurgency/Terrorism affected Railway areas.


SWACHH SARVEKSHAN GRAMEEN 2019 (SSG 2019) : India’s Largest Rural Sanitation Survey Launched

The drive is to be instituted from August 14 to September 30, 2019, and will cover 17,450 villages in 698 districts across India and include 87,250 public places namely schools, anganwadi centers, public health centres, haat/bazaars/religious places, making it India’s largest rural sanitation survey.

Approximately 2,50,000 citizens will be interviewed for their feedback as part of the survey. Citizens will also be mobilised to provide feedback on sanitation relation related issues online using an application which is specifically developed for the purpose.

An independent survey agency will conduct the survey in all districts and the results will be announced based on quantitative and qualitative sanitation parameters.

With over 5.8 lakh villages, 639 districts, and 32 States/UTs declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) in rural India, the country is on its track to be completely an Open Defecation Free India by October 2, 2019.

A detailed protocol has been developed to guide the ranking of Districts basis their performance on key quality and quantitative parameters.

The SSG 2019 logo, the SSG 2019 brochure mobile app and a dashboard for citizen’s feedback has also been launched. An audio-visual campaign, featuring actor Ajay Devgan was also launched at the SSG launch event.

U.S. President Donald Trump has once again warned to leave the WTO-the world's largest multilateral trade forum-if it had to.

It was not the first time that Mr. Trump has trained his guns on the international trade body. How countries are classified?

WTO allows member countries to classify themselves as "developed" or "developing". However, other members can challenge the decision of a country to be classified as "developing". Only the "least developed countries" status is designated by the United Nations.

Eggshell to synthesize natural bone implants

The process has been developed by the researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad. 

The research seeks to produce bone substitute materials such as tricalcium phosphate, a commonly used bone substitute material, from natural sources.

Eggshells are made of largely of minerals (95.1%) along with small amounts of proteins and water. Calcium is the main mineral component of the eggshell.

In modern medicine practice, damaged and missing bones are replaced with bone from either the patient or a donor or by using artificial materials containing calcium, such as Plaster of Paris, and
more recently, phosphate compounds like hydroxyapatite and calcium phosphate.



GREEN CARD REGULATIONS

According to the recent announcements by the US government, green card regulations will be more stringent, a move that will impact applicants from around the world, including from India.

Key points to remember : 

  • According to the '2017 Yearbook of Immigration Statistics', by the US Department of Homeland Security, India-born immigrants in the US got the 4th highest number of green cards in 2017.
  • Indians were behind applicants from Mexico, China and Cuba in terms of number of green cards (lawful permanent resident status) obtained in 2017.
  • In 2017, 60,394 persons born in India obtained permanent resident status. Of these, about 1/3rd were immediate relatives of US citizens, 1/4th were family sponsored, and over 1/3rd were employed in the US.  The remaining were given this status under the Diversity Immigrant Visa, refugee, asylee and other categories.




The case of DOCUMENT IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (DIN)

Every communication to be issued by the Income-Tax Department on or after the deadline of October 1, 2019 will now have a DIN which tends to insure proper audit trail of such communication.

What is DIN?
  • It is a unique Director identification number allotted by the Central Government to any person intending to be a Director or an existing director of a company.
  • It is a unique 8-digit unique identification number which has a lifetime validity. Through this, details of the directors are maintained in a database.
  • It is specific to a person, which means even if he is a director in 2 or more companies, he has to obtain only 1 DIN. 
    • In case he leaves a company and joins some other company, the same DIN would work in that company as well.
Procedure to apply for DIN and other relevant forms.
There are 2 ways to do taat. These are :

  • SPICe Form : This form would only be used in application for allotment of DINs to the proposed first Directors in respect of New companies.
  • DIR-3 Form : This form is used when application is made by any person who is intending to become a director in an already existing company.
Where is it used?

Whenever a return, an application or any information which is related to a company will be submitted under any law, the director signing such return, application or information will mention his DIN underneath his signature.
